  Mobile Video

Mobile video is the transferring of signals that carry moving picture information to mobile devices. Mobile video is commonly associated with supplying video signals to mobile telephones. 

This figure shows the basic operation of a mobile video system. This example shows that a movie is transferred to a mobile system through a video gateway (GW). The video gateway converts the high-speed digital video signal into a low-speed digital video signal that can be sent to the mobile telephone over the mobile radio channel. This is normally achieved with a dedicated hardware device called an encoder. The mobile telephone contains software that controls the operation of the mobile telephone (operating software) and application software (such as a media player) that allows the mobile telephone to decode and display the digital video signals.
