GPS Satellite Power Systems

Satellite power systems supply energy to the communication and computing equipment. GPS satellites receive their power from solar energy. The satellite stores excess energy in batteries so it can operate when the solar panels are not facing the sun. The GPS satellite must continuously reposition its solar cells towards the sun as it orbits around the Earth. The amount of power the solar cells can provide ranges from approximately 800 Watts for Block II GPS satellites to more than 2450 Watts for Block IIF GPS satellites
