GPS Block IIR Satellites

Block IIR satellites are an improved version of Block II GPS satellites. They have lower cost than Block II satellites and a 10 year design life span [ ].Block IIR satellite improvements included the ability of the satellite to determine its own position (Autonav), improved accuracy and uses processors that can be reprogrammed.

Block IIR satellites include the ability of autonomous navigation which eliminates the need for navigational control messages from the Earth. The GPS satellite can use inter-satellite ranging to determine its position. Block IIR satellites have data processors that can be updated (reprogrammed).
