Kepler's First Law of Planetary MotionKepler's first law of planetary motion is the rule that the orbital path of a planet (a satellite) is an ellipse, with the sun (focal point) at one focus of the ellipse.
Satellite Orbital Path
This figure shows a Kepler's first law of a satellite orbital path. This diagram shows that an orbital path has an elliptical shape where it revolves around a focal point (such as the sun). The closest point from the focal point of the orbital path is called the perigee point and the point furthest away from the focal point is called the apogee point.
