Pseudolites are transmitters that provide signals that are similar or would have been transmitted by satellites. Pseudolites may be used to provide global positioning signals (GPS) to GPS receivers in areas that are unable to receive signals (such as mining pits) from enough GPS satellites to determine their position. ![]() This figure shows how a GPS pseudolite can be used to provide GPS service into areas which may have obstructed views of GPS satellites. This diagram shows that the GPS pseudolite operates as one of the GPS satellites that the GPS receiver uses to gather its position information.
